WHAT IS TRAUMA INFORMED
AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?
A few years ago, I had what should've been a relaxing massage. The therapist was skilled, respectful, and well-trained. But the massage triggered something deep from my past. I left my body during that session—a frightening out-of-body experience—while the therapist, clearly anxious, had no idea what was happening or how to help me return. That moment re-traumatized me—and makes it painfully clear how important trauma-informed care really is.
That’s why trauma-informed isn’t just a buzzword—for abuse survivors, it’s essential.
Even otherwise supportive environments can feel unsafe. Your instinct is to switch to survival mode, and suddenly you are performing in stead of healing. Or worse, the situation can trigger an unexpected nervous system response, which can re-traumatize you—like it did with me during my massage session.
How does it make a difference in your healing journey?
As I say to my clients:

"I work with your inner wisdom, your body’s signals, your emotional truth, and the goals you have for yourself—all while gently bringing awareness to thoughts and behavioral patterns that are rooted in your past."
-
It restores agency: You regain a sense of control over your life and your healing process.
-
It rebuilds trust: In yourself, your intuition, and your body.
-
Shifts trauma patterns: By recognizing survival strategies and gently moving away from them.
-
Supports emotional regulation: So you can understand and manage your emotions and nervous system without feeling overwhelmed.
-
Healing becomes part of how you live each day—not something separate. You heal a little every day.
