WHAT IS TRAUMA INFORMED
AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?
A few years ago, I had what should have been a relaxing massage.

The therapist was skilled, respectful, and well-trained.
But the session triggered something deep from my past. Unexpectedly.

Instantly, I dissociated.

A frightening out-of-body experience—while the therapist, clearly anxious, had no idea what was happening or how to help me return.

That moment re-traumatized me.

And it made one thing painfully clear:
trauma-informed care is not optional for abuse survivors.
It’s essential.
What is trauma-informed coaching?

Trauma-informed coaching is an approach that recognizes how past experiences—especially emotional, physical, or sexual abuse—can still affect your nervous system, your reactions, and your sense of safety today.

As a trauma-informed life coach for abuse survivors, I don’t just focus on mindset.

I work with your body, your nervous system, and your inner experience—you have agency, so healing happens in a way that actually feels safe.

Because without feeling safe… healing is as good as impossible.
Why does being trauma-informed matter?

Even supportive environments can feel unsafe when your system has learned to stay on high alert.

Your body doesn’t distinguish between past and present—it responds based on what it has learned.

So instead of healing, you may find yourself:

-
going into survival mode
-
performing instead of feeling
-
shutting down or becoming overwhelmed

Or, in some cases, becoming re-triggered—just like I did during that massage.
That’s why being trauma-informed matters.
It meets you where you are.
And it works with your system, instead of pushing past it.
How does trauma-informed coaching support your healing journey?
As I often say to my clients:

“I work with your inner wisdom, your body’s signals, your emotional truth, and the intention you come in with—all while gently bringing awareness to thoughts and behavioral patterns that are often rooted in your past.”

A trauma-informed approach supports you in ways that go beyond insight alone:

It restores agency
You regain a sense of control over your life and your healing process.
It rebuilds trust
In yourself, your intuition, and your body.
It shifts trauma patterns
By recognizing survival strategies and gently moving away from them.
It supports emotional regulation
So you can calm your nervous system without feeling overwhelmed.

Healing becomes something you live.
Not something you have to work hard at.
You heal, gently—a little every day.
